Escalation & specialist pool sizer
A share of front-line contacts escalate into a small specialist pool that most staffing models never count. This tool treats escalations as a demand stream you generate, sizes the specialist tier with Erlang at its own (usually longer) handle time, and adds headroom — because small pools feel the power of one acutely, and one absence can sink the queue.

How it works
Escalation volume is your front-line volume times the escalation rate — a forecast you already have, on a delay. The specialist pool is sized with Erlang at the escalation handle time and its own service target. Because the pool is small, the calculator adds a reserve on top: a single specialist off sick is a much bigger blow to a team of five than a team of fifty, so small pools need proportionally more headroom and a cross-trained back-up. Watch the escalation rate as a leading indicator — when it climbs, the cheapest fix is usually upstream (front-line skills and support), not a bigger specialist team.
